Australia’s Maddison Keeney and Anabelle Smith combined to win the silver medal in the women’s 3m synchronised event at the Diving World Cup 2024 Berlin on Sunday.
Keeney and Smith, who won the bronze medal in the same event at the Rio 2016 Olympics, scored 296.73 to finish 6.48 points behind the USA’s Sarah Bacon-Kassidy Cook. Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen, with 295.59 points, settled for bronze at the Europa Sports Park in the five-team final.
This was Maddison Keeney’s second medal at the Berlin meet. She had earlier won a silver medal in the women’s 3m springboard on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Cassiel Rousseau, who bagged a bronze medal in the men’s 10m platform on Saturday, partnered with Domonic Bedggood for bronze in the men’s 10m synchronised event.
Rousseau and Bedggood, who won gold medals at the 2023 world championships in separate events, scored 402.57 to finish third on the podium in Berlin.
Great Britain’s Thomas Daley and Noah Williams bagged the gold medal with 465.00 points and was followed by Canada’s Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens, who finished second with 408.99.
A total of 10 Australian divers - five women and five men - competed in the second leg of the Diving World Cup 2024 series in Berlin.
With two silver and two bronze, Australia finished fifth on the Diving World Cup 2024 Berlin medals table. The People’s Republic of China finished on top of the standings with four medals, all gold.
Based on the performances in Berlin and the first leg that was held in Montreal, the top 18 athletes in individual events and the top eight in synchronised and team events will qualify for the super final in Xi’an, China, scheduled for April.
