PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen will headline the Indian contingent at the Denmark Open 2024 badminton tournament at Arena Fyn in Odense from Tuesday.
Matches from the Denmark Open 2024 badminton will be live streamed and telecast in India.
At last week’s Arctic Open 2024 tournament, Sindhu and Sen returned to the BWF Tour for the first time since the Paris 2024 Olympics.
World No. 16 Sindhu, however, failed to impress on her return losing in straight games against Canada’s Michelle Li. It was also her first match since appointing a new coaching team, featuring India’s Anoop Sridhar and the Republic of Korea’s Lee Soon Il.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu, meanwhile, is slated to take on Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po, ranked 28th in the badminton rankings, in the opening round of the women’s singles competition at the Denmark Open 2024, a BWF Super 750 tournament.
Sen, meanwhile, is India’s lone entry in men’s singles at the Denmark Open. On his competitive return last week, the Indian badminton player, who finished one win short of the Olympic podium at Paris 2024, was defeated by Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen.
World No. 19 Sen has been drawn against the People’s Republic of China’s Lu Guang Zu, ranked 17th.
Malvika Bansod, Unnati Hooda and Aakarshi Kashyap will also play in the women’s singles competition.
Bansod, who made the last eight of the China Open, a BWF Super 1000 event, last month was ousted in the round of 16 at the recently-concluded Arctic Open.
While no Indian pair will feature in the men’s doubles competition, four pairs will take the court across the women’s and mixed doubles events.
The Panda sisters, Rutaparna and Swetaparna, will go up against Chang Ching Hui/Yang Ching Tun of Chinese Taipei while Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand will take on fifth-seeded Tan Pearly/Thinaah Muralitharan of Malaysia in their women’s doubles openers.
In mixed doubles, Sathish Kumar Karunakaran/Aadya Variyath are drawn against Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati and B. Sumeeth Reddy/Sikki Reddy will face Canadian pair Kevin Lee and Eliana Zhang in the first round.
