Indonesia will be represented in the semi-finals at their home badminton masters tournament after Anthony Sinisuka Ginting triumphed over Loh Kean Yew at the BWF Indonesia Masters 2024 on Friday (26 January).

Third seed Ginting appeared to be in control in both games, only for Singapore's 2021 world champion Loh to fight back and even edge ahead both times.

However, in the first game, Ginting held his nerve to take four of the last six points, before winning the last two crucial points from 19-19 in the second.

The 21-17, 21-19 win in 53 minutes sends Ginting into what is on paper a straightforward semi-final against world number 24 Brian Yang of Canada.

However, Yang has already claimed some big scalps this week, including Asian Games champion Li Shifeng in the opening round, and Malaysia's world number 10 Lee Zii Jia in their quarter-final.

Lee appeared to be battling discomfort in the first game and did not have the same energy he had shown in recent matches, with Yang taking full advantage to win it 21-14.

Before the start of the second game, the Malaysian opted to retire from the match, with his team later announcing that he was suffering from food poisoning.
