BWF Indonesia Masters 2024: Lee Zii Jia into another quarter-final after beating Angus Ng, Loh to face Ginting in last eight
The Malaysian has reached the last eight in his second straight World Tour tournament after beating his Hong Kong China opponent 22-20, 21-15 in Jakarta. Meanwhile, Loh Kean Yew and Anthony Ginting set up a tantalising quarter-final clash.
Lee Zii Jia continued the bright start to his 2024 badminton season on Thursday (25 January) by reaching his second quarter-final in three tournaments this year.
After a disappointing first-round exit at his home Malaysia Open, the 25-year-old has now reached the last eight at both the India Open last week and now the BWF Indonesia Masters 2024.
The Malaysian defeated Hong Kong China's Ng Ka Long Angus 22-20, 21-15 in straight games.
In a close first game, Ng led narrowly for much of it with Lee only hitting the front for the first time at 16-15, before taking the last two points from 20-20.
But from 13-13 in the second, Lee only dropped two of the last 10 points to seal a 46-minute win and a quarter-final against Brian Yang, who defeated second seed Li Shifeng in the first round.
Singapore's 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew has also reached the last eight, the first time he has made it that far this season.
The world number 12 registered a comfortable straight-games victory over Chinese Taipei's Su Li-Yang 21-11, 21-16 in 43 minutes.
Having romped away to easily take the first game, Loh faced a tougher test in the second but held his nerve and kept Su at arm's length to close out the victory.
It means he progresses to face Indonesian third seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the pick of the quarter-finals.
Home favourite Ginting beat Lee's Malaysian teammate Leong Jun Hao 21-15, 21-17.
