2021 World champion Loh Kean Yew is through to the quarterfinals at the BWF French Open 2024 on Thursday (7 March).
Singapore's badminton star needed three sets to dismiss Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in Paris.
The 12th-ranked Loh won the match in 68 minutes, 21-16, 18-21, 21-16. It's a big victory for 26-year-old with Ginting, the Tokyo 2020 bronze medal winner, currently ranked 5th globally.
"Obviously happy to be in the quarterfinals," Loh said afterward. "But as I said, the job is not done. I still need to continue to focus on myself and the next game."
Loh can look forward to an encounter with the unseeded Lakshya Sen in the quarterfinal.
No. 1 ranked Viktor Axelsen, the reigning Olympic champion, suffered a shock defeat to Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei, 21-12, 21-17. Wang will face Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn next.
Earlier in the day, Shi Yuqi of the People's Republic of China ousted Denmark's Magnus Johannesen 21-10, 21-14. Yuqi's compatriot Lu Guang Zu awaits in the quarter-finals.
