From 23 June to 2 July the top boxers from Europe will duke it out for a spot at Paris 2024 at the 2023 European Games.

A total of 325 athletes from 42 nations will compete in boxing at the European Games, with the event acting as a direct qualifier for Paris 2024.

In the men’s competition, fighters will compete in seven different weight divisions - from -51kg all the way up to the hard-hitting +92kg super heavyweights. Fighters in six weight divisions will compete in the women’s competition, from -50kg through to -75kg.

The stakes are unbelievably high with a total of 44 Olympic quotas on the line. For some, dreams will be made, while others will face devastating disappointment, but one thing’s for sure - you don’t want to miss this one.

When and where will the European Games 2023 boxing competition take place

The boxing competition begins on Friday 23 June with round of 32 matchups and ends on Sunday 2 July with the women’s finals. The men’s finals will take place one day before on Saturday 1 July. 

All of the action will take place at the Nowy Targ Arena, a 3,000-capacity ice rink located in New Targ, Poland.

How many competitors can qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024?

With either four or two quotas available per weight category, boxers can book their tickets to the Games if they win their quarter-finals or semi-finals, depending on the weight division.

Boxers to watch at the European Games 2023

Team GB will go into the European Games with high hopes following their strong showing at Tokyo 2020 where they secured six medals including two golds.

The class of 2023 has a number of big names fighting for Olympic qualification, including Commonwealth Games champion Delicious Orie in the men’s +92kg division and Demie-Jade Resztan in the women’s 50kg division.

France, the hosts of the next Olympic Games, will pin their ambitions on the likes of Estelle Mossely in the women’s -60kg, with the pro boxer aiming to repeat her gold medal from Rio 2016. They also have triple world lightweight champion Sofiane Oumiha among their ranks, who will be hoping to go one better than the silver medal he won seven years ago in Rio.

Also watch out for Italy’s Irma Testa who won featherweight bronze at Tokyo 2020, Ukraine’s 2021 world light-middleweight champion Yurii Zakharieiev, Spain's world bronze medallists Gazi Jalidov (-80 kg) and Martín Molina (-51 kg) and a whole host of other names aiming for glory under the bright lights in the Nowy Targ Arena.
