Home favourite Jonatan Christie claimed his first title in 10 months at the 2023 Indonesia Masters on Sunday (29 January).

In an all-Indonesian final, he defeated Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 21-15, 21-13 in 44 minutes for his maiden BWF Badminton Tour title on home soil inside Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace.

Christie's last BWF Tour title came at the Swiss Open in March 2022.

The fourth seed led 11-9 at the break and won a spectacular 51-shot rally to go 17-15 ahead.

And Christie reeled off the next four points in succession to take the opening game.

Dwi Wardoyo went into a 7-5 lead in game two, but his opponent regained control to take an 11-8 advantage into the interval.

The hugely popular Christie - nicknamed Jojo - soon opened up a seven-point gap before closing out victory and dropping to his knees in celebration.

Afterwards, Christie said, "This is very special for me. Finally I get to win the title after winning the Asian Games in 2018."

The 25-year-old had won Asian Games gold in this arena, beating Chou Tien-chen in the final.

An Se Young wins back-to-back titles in 2023

An Se Young of the Republic of Korea defeated Carolina Marin 18-21, 21-18, 21-13 to claim her second singles title of the season.

After trailing at the start, Rio 2016 Olympic champion Marin managed to take an 11-10 lead into the first break.

The 20-year-old from Gwangju went on the attack, but the Spanish left-hander showed solid defence to extend her lead and take the opening game.

In a tight second game, An led 11-10 at the interval and just about managed to stay in front before taking the last two points to level the match.

The decider was also close with Marin going into a 10-8 lead. But An won nine points out of the next 10 to take control and went on to take it 21-13.

It was second consecutive title triumph for the 2022 world bronze medallist who defeated world champion Yamaguchi Akane to take the India Open title last weekend.

An has now won 14 of her 15 matches this season with her only defeat coming against Yamaguchi in the Malaysia Open final.
