The 2023 BWF World Junior Championships are hosted by the United States, marking the first time the nation welcomes the planet's premier junior talents.
All the action takes place at The Podium indoor sports facility in Spokane, Washington, offering us a glimpse of the future badminton stars from 2 to 8 October.

2023 BWF World Junior Championships: Who to watch
In boys’ singles, 18-year-old Alex Lanier has already showcased his skills at the senior level, clinching this year’s Polish Open (International Challenge) and last year’s Canada Open (Super 100), which marked his first World Tour event title. He is entering the World Junior Championships following a back injury but has now made a full recovery.
Japanese Miyazaki Tomoka is the reigning champion in girls’ singles and is eager to retain her title. This season, the 17-year-old reached the semi-finals at the Indonesia Masters (Super 100) this season, defeating 2016 Olympic bronze medallist and former world number one Okuhara Nozomi in the quarter-finals.
Thailand’s 16-year-old Pitchamon Opatniput aims to challenge the Japanese favourite. She has already climbed to the 57th spot in the elite world rankings and reached the semi-finals at the Taipei Open (Super 300), where she lost to world number ten Beiwen Zhang of the United States.
The twins from the Republic of Korea Kim Min Ji and Kim Min Sun have already displayed promising results in both girls’ doubles and singles. Earlier this year they faced off in the girls’ singles final at the Dutch Junior International and reached the semi-finals in doubles.
Zhu Yi Yun is a doubles specialist, securing the boys’ doubles title with Xu Hua Yu and the mixed doubles title with Liu Sheng Shu at last year’s World Junior Championships. This year, he added two more titles to his name by clinching the boys’ and the mixed doubles at the Asia Junior Championships.
