Lee Zii Jia produced a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Ng Ka Long Angus as the badminton men's singles competition got under way at the Asian Games 2023 on Monday (2 October).

Lee beat his nemesis from Hong Kong, China, 15-21, 21-15, 21-16 to progress to the second round after being made to work for 62 minutes at Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou.

After dropping the first game, the Malaysian trailed 9-5 in the second - before rattling off six consecutive points to turn the game around.

The two went back-and-forth but Lee managed to take six of the last seven points to restore parity, sending the match to a decisive third.

The last set was no less nervy for Lee - he had beaten Ng only once in five previous career meeetings - as the 14th seed here was continually put to test by his opponent even when he had a 16-11 lead.

Lee will face Mourinho Zefi Costa Gusmao De Jesus, who had a bye, in the next round.
