Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Mirabai Chanu and Commonwealth Games 2022 champions Jeremy Lalrinnunga, and Achinta Sheuli will skip the continental meet.
Defending champion Jhilli Dalabehera will lead the 13-member Indian squad at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022 in Manama, Bahrain from Saturday.
Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Mirabai Chanu and Commonwealth Games 2022 champions Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli will skip the Asian Championships to stay fresh for the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers starting December.
Apart from Jhilli Dalabehera, who will compete in the women’s 49kg category, Harshada Garud (women’s 45kg) will also be a medal contender at the Asian championships. Harshada Garud made history in May by becoming the first Indian woman weightlifter to win a gold medal at the IWF Junior World Championships.

At the last edition of the continental meet held in 2021, Jhilli Dalabehera won the gold in women’s 45kg and Mirabai Chanu won a bronze in women’s 49kg. The event also saw Mirabai Chanu lift 119 kgs to create a new world record in the clean and jerk section.
