India’s Saketh Myneni and Ramanathan Ramkumar will play Jason Jung and Yu-hsiou of Chinese Taipei in the tennis men’s doubles gold medal match on Friday at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China.
The men’s doubles final will take place ahead of the women's singles finals and mixed doubles semi-finals. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 AM IST and will be available on live streaming and telecast in India.
In the semi-finals, the second-seeded duo of Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated the Republic of Korea’s Seongchan Hong and Soonwoo Kwon 6-1, 6-7(6), 10-0 after the match went to tie-break.
On the way to the final, the Indian tennis players dropped only one set.
Saketh Myneni has won two Asian Games medals so far - a mixed doubles gold and men’s doubles silver at Incheon 2014. This will be the first podium finish for Ramkumar Ramanathan at the quadrennial continental event.
The unseeded Chinese Taipei pair of Jason Jung and Yu-hsiou Hsu, meanwhile, defeated Thailand’s Pruchya Isaro and Maximus Parapol Jones 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-2 in the other semi-final, which also needed a tie-breaker to decide.
India are the most successful team in the Asian Games men’s doubles tennis event with five gold medals to their credit. Rohan Bopanna, who won the gold alongside Divij Sharan in the same event at Jakarta 2018, partnered Yuki Bhambri in Hangzhou but the duo was knocked out in the round of 16.
