Zhang Yufei was named women's MVP at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou on Saturday night (7 October) with her People's Republic of China swimming teammate Qin Haiyang taking the men's award.
Zhang, who won two golds and two silver medals at Tokyo 2020 in 2021, equalled Ikee Rikako's record haul of six golds at the 2018 Asian Games.
She might have had a seventh but for the China being disqualified from the heats of the 4x100m medley relay on the final day. Zhang also set new Asian Games records in one relay and four individual events.
"It has been a milestone year for me. Hangzhou will leave a deep mark in my memory," Zhang said.
Breaststroker Qin, who broke the Games marks in all three individual breaststroke events, claimed the men's MVP award for his five gold medals.
Speaking from Germany, where he had beaten Great Britain's Adam Peaty in a Swimming World Cup event, Qin said: "It was not in my plans to win the award. I came into this year just wanting to make breakthroughs.
"I want to achieve newer heights in Paris."
