The team selected for the continental event will also represent India at the World Team Championships in Morocco from August 20 to September 2 this year.
The Bridge Federation of India, on Tuesday, announced the national team for the forthcoming Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
The team was picked after the selection trials were held at the Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence in Greater Noida from March 2 to 18. Squads for three categories - open teams, mixed team and ladies team - were selected for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
This entire contingent, along with a seniors team, will also represent India at the World Bridge Team Championships in Morocco from August 20 to September 2.
The Asian Games, postponed from last year, will be held from September 23 to October 8.
India won a gold (men’s pair) and two bronze (men’s team and mixed team) medals at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, where bridge was introduced for the first time.
Sumit Mukherjee, Jaggy Shivdasani and Rajeswar Tiwari – all part of the squad which bagged the men’s team bronze at Jakarta 2018 – will feature at the 2023 Asian Games as well.
Bridge is a team game played between two teams of two players. A session of bridge consists of several deals (also called hands or boards). A hand is dealt, the bidding (or auction) proceeds to a conclusion and then the hand is played. Finally, the hand's result is scored.
