The Asian Champions Trophy 2024 hockey tournament will start on Sunday with six continental heavyweights going head-to-head at the Moqi Training Base in Hulunbuir, the People’s Republic of China.
All Asian Champions Trophy hockey matches will be available for live streaming and telecast in India.
This will be the first competition for the Indian men’s hockey team, currently ranked fifth, after the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The six nations participating in the Asian Champion Trophy 2024 are India, Malaysia (ranked 13), Republic of Korea (ranked 14), Japan (ranked 15), Pakistan (ranked 16) and hosts China (ranked 23).

The much-awaited India vs Pakistan hockey match will be played on September 14. Pakistan lead the head-to-head record against India 82-66. However, India have won 14 of the last 16 matches against Pakistan.
The six-team tournament will begin in a round-robin format. The top four will qualify for the semi-finals. There will be classification matches as well to determine third, fourth, fifth and sixth placings.
Harmanpreet Singh will continue as the captain of the Indian side. Vivek Sagar Prasad has been handed vice-captain duties in place of Hardik Singh, who has been rested. Mandeep Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Gurjant Singh and Shamsher Singh are the Paris Olympians who have been rested.
India will take the field without their talismanic goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who retired from international hockey after the Paris 2024 Olympics. Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Suraj Karkera are the two goalkeepers selected in the Indian squad for the Asian Champions Trophy.
India are the most successful side in the Asian Champions Trophy, having won it four times. They enter the 2024 edition as the defending champions, having beaten Malaysia 4-3 in the final in Chennai last year.
