Asia's biggest track and field meet takes place this year from 12–16 July in Bangkok, Thailand, at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships.

Hosts Thailand are one of nine teams that have participated in all 23 previous editions (with the 24th Championships in 2021 cancelled), and they have one of the hottest young athletics stars to watch for this year in Puripol Boonson, the fastest 100m runner in the world under 18 years old. However, having pulled up hurt barely two months ago at the SEA Games, Puripol may not be running at full force with an eye on the Asian Games later this year.

Other names to watch include India's top long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, Indonesian sprinter Lalu Muhammad Zohri, and Japan's middle distance runner Tanaka Nozomi.

The meet falls a month ahead of the World Athletics Championships, due to be held from 19–27 August in Hungary, and with that looming large, a number of the continent's very best stars may opt to skip the Thai capital, instead choosing to focus on their build-up for Worlds.

Athletes present in Bangkok will compete in 45 different track and field events, with no marathon events scheduled.

In addition to Thailand, eight other teams have competed in every edition of the event: Hong Kong, China; India; Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Philippines; and Singapore.
