Indian badminton players PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen will return to the court for the first time since the Paris Olympics at the Arctic Open 2024 BWF Super 500 tournament at Vantaa, Finland, from Tuesday. Matches will be live streamed.
Currently 14th in world badminton rankings, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhuâs run in the womenâs singles competition ended in the round of 16 after a loss to the Peopleâs Republic of Chinaâs He Bingjao.
Sindhu skipped all BWF Tour events since the Paris Olympics and also parted ways with her Indonesian coach Agus Dwi Santoso. She recently appointed India's Anoop Sridhar and the Republic of Koreaâs Lee Soon Il as her new coaches.
The Arctic Open will be Sindhuâs first competitive outing with her new coaching team. She has been seeded sixth in the Finland meet. Indiaâs Malvika Bansod, Aakarshi Kashyap and Unnati Hooda are also in the womenâs singles entry list.
Bansod recently made the quarter-finals of the China Open Super 1000 and will hope to impress in Finland.
Lakshya Sen, on the other hand, fell short of a medal in Paris but created a slice of history by becoming the first Indian to play in a menâs singles medal match at the Olympics. Since losing his bronze medal match against Malaysiaâs Lee Jii Zia, Sen has been training in Austria to improve his fitness.
Kiran George will also be in the mix at the Arctic Open but will start from the qualifiers.
Sathish Kumar Karunakaran will be involved in both menâs singles and mixed doubles, where he will partner Aadya Variyath.
There are no Indian menâs doubles pairs in action at the 2024 Arctic Open while Rutaparna Panda/Swetaparna Panda make up the lone entry in womenâs doubles.
