Deepika Kumari is India’s top-ranked women’s recurve archer

Deepika Kumari was the lone Indian recurve archer left standing in individual events after Day 2 of the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris.

Deepika Kumari defeated Charline Schwarz of Germany in the pre-quarters and London 2012 Olympics silver medallist Aida Roman of Mexico 6-0 in the quarter-final to book her spot in the semi-finals.

The Tokyo-bound Indian archer, currently ranked No. 3 in the world, will face Ana Vazquez of Mexico in the semi-final on Sunday.

Ankita Bhakat, Komalika Bari and Madhu Vedwan - the other Indians in the women’s individual recurve event - were knocked out of the competition earlier in the day.

While Ankita Bhakat bowed out in the round of 16, Komalika Bari, who had ousted Madhu Vedwan in the second elimination round, lost out in the round of 32.

In the men’s individual recurve category, Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav - all three Olympic-bound archers - crashed out.

India, however, is still in the fray in all three recurve team events - men’s, women’s and mixed.
