In-form Anirban Lahiri makes cut at US golf Sanderson Farms Championship
At the Sanderson Farms Championship, Anirban Lahiri has lost shots on just a single hole - a double bogey on the sixth in Round 2.
Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri carded an impressive eight-under 136 over two days at the Sanderson Farms Championship PGA Tour golf tournament in Mississippi, USA, to head into the weekend rounds tied-7th on the leaderboard.
Anirban Lahiri trails leader Keegan Bradley - a four-time PGA Tour winner - by just five shots and made the cut, set at three-under, comfortably.
Battling windy conditions at the Country Club of Jackson golf course, the 33-year-old Indian teed off well in the second round from the back nine, racing to the turn with three birdies.
On the front nine, Lahiri incurred a double bogey after missing the fairway on the par-four sixth.
Lahiri, however, signed off on a high with a 10-foot birdie on the final hole of the day to maintain his overnight tied-7 position on the table.
“I just didn’t hit enough fairways. The wind kept swirling and it was a guessing game between the lines and the wind all day. Lost my concentration around the turn and just had to grind it out,” Lahiri, a former Asian Tour No. 1, said.
Lahiri had a near-flawless first round, scoring a bogeyless six-under 66 after sinking birdies on the third, seventh, 10th, 12th, 14th and 15th holes.
Placed in striking distance of the top place, Lahiri, who is featuring in his sixth straight season on the PGA Tour, will be eager to carry forward the momentum at the event where he placed tied-45 in his maiden outing last season. He will be vying for his first-ever title on the PGA Tour.
“I got in a good practice session afterwards, so I’m looking to improve my play over the weekend,” Anirban Lahiri noted.
Anirban Lahiri has been in good touch of late, finishing tied-36 at the Safeway Open last month and producing a strong tied-6th result at the Corales Championship last week for his first top-10 finish in almost two years.
“Obviously confidence is up. I feel like I'm playing really well,” the 33-year-old Lahiri said. “I like this golf course… and I really like the way it sets up. It reminds me a lot of the tracks I grew up playing in Asia.
“I’m just trying to stick to my process and check the boxes and be happy with that. The results are coming right now,” he pointed out. “I'm swinging it good, feel like I've got a good grip on my putter, which you need this week. So yeah, I'm in a good place. I feel confident.”
