Cyprien Sarrazin claimed his first FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Super G victory at Wengen on Friday (12 January).
The 29-year-old Frenchman was third down the Lauberhorn after taking second place in Thursday's downhill behind home favourite Marco Odermatt.
He put together a blistering run, touching the perimeter netting high up the course and flying through the bottom half to set a formidable target of 1:47.75.
The race was overshadowed by a heavy fall for Sarazzin's teammate Alexis Pinturault on the Silberhornsprung jump with the two-time combined world champion airlifted to hospital.
After a delay of half an hour, Odermatt was unable to eclipse Sarrazin's time in an uncharacteristically scrappy descent. But the Swiss did manage to take second place which extended his World Cup Super G and overall leads.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde made a fast start to his run, but took too many chances on the mid-section and ended up a second off the pace in third place.
For Sarrazin, it was a second World Cup win in the space of a fortnight after winning the Bormio downhill in late December. His only previous World Cup triumph came seven years before that in the Alta Badia parallel giant slalom.
He will hope to maintain his good run of form in the second Wengen downhill on Saturday.
