Indian Super League clubs Odisha FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face off on matchday 1 of the AFC Cup 2023-24 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

The OFC vs MBSG match will begin at 7:30 PM IST and will be available on live streaming in India.

The AFC Cup, organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), is the second-tier Asian continental club football competition after the AFC Champions League.

The 2023-24 season is the 19th edition of the AFC Cup and teams from five Asian zones - West, East, Central, South and ASEAN - will compete for the top prize. This will also be the final edition of the AFC Cup.

The AFC Champions League 2, to be played in a new format, will replace the AFC Cup competition from the 2024-25 season.

Odisha FC sealed their spot in the 2023-24 AFC Cup group stage after winning the Super Cup 2023 title and beating Gokulam Kerala in the playoff.

Mohun Bagan SG, meanwhile, came back from a goal down to beat Abahani Dhaka in the AFC Cup playoff after getting the better of Nepal’s Machhindra in the preliminary stage.

The Indian football clubs have been placed in Group D (South Zone) for the AFC Cup 2023-24 alongside Maldives’ Maziya Sports & Recreation Club and Bashundhara Kings from Bangladesh.

Mohun Bagan SG recently won the Durand Cup 2023 title after beating arch-rivals East Bengal in the final. The Kolkata club advanced to the AFC Cup inter-zone playoff semi-finals on their previous two attempts but faltered at the same stage on both occasions.

Odisha FC, on the other hand, are making their AFC Cup debut. The Sergio Lobera-managed club have added firepower to their squad, roping in Mourtada Fall, Ahmed Jahouh, CY Goddard and Roy Krishna ahead of the AFC Cup 2023-24 campaign.

Reigning champions Al Seeb, Oman’s first AFC Cup winner, will not feature this season leaving Al Ahed, Kuwait SC and Al-Ittihad as the only former victors featuring in the group stage.

Australian clubs will make their AFC Cup debut with 2022-23 A-League champions Central Coast Mariners and 2022 Australia Cup winners Macarthur FC in fray.

Each team in the AFC Cup’s final edition will play the three teams in their group in a home-and-away round-robin format.

Three group toppers and best runners-up from West Zone groups - A, B and C - will make the zonal semi-finals. The winning team will advance to the 19th AFC Cup final.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Zone, comprising groups F, G and H, will also see three group winners and the best runners-up qualifying for the zonal semi-finals.

The ASEAN Zone winner will make the inter-zone semi-finals, where Groups D, E and I winners will join them for a knockout round. The winner of the inter-zone final will join the West Zone victor in the AFC Cup 2023-24 final.

The AFC Cup 2023-24 winners will qualify for the playoff stage of the 2024-25 AFC Champions League Elite.
