AFC Asian Cup 2023 top scorer: Qatar's Akram Afif wins the Golden Boot

Qatar football player Akram Afif was the top-scorer at the AFC Asian Cup 2023 with eight goals from seven matches.

Qatar's Akram Afif collected the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Golden Boot award, having scored eight goals in seven matches for his national team at the AFC Asian Cup 2023.

Akram Afif scored a hat-trick in Qatar's 3-1 win over Jordan in the final to join the likes of legendary Ali Daei, Tim Cahill and Lee Dong-gook in the list of footballers who have laid claim to the honour of being the Golden Boot winner in the past.

A total of 24 teams competed at the AFC Asian Cup 2023 in Qatar, which concluded on February 10.

Iraq's Aymen Hussein was the second-highest goal-scorer at the AFC Asian Cup 2023 with six goals from four matches.

AFC Asian Cup 2023 top goal scorers

Qatar’s Almoez Ali was the highest scorer in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup with nine goals. It was also the most number of goals registered by a player in a single edition of the continental football championship, beating Iran legend Ali Daei’s tally of eight from 1996.

Almoez Ali was also in the Qatar squad for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and scored his team’s second goal in a 3-0 win over Lebanon in the tournament opener at the Lusail Stadium. Akram Afif scored the first goal of the competition.

Ali Daei still holds the record for the most goals scored in the AFC Asian Cup with 14 goals, scored across three different editions.
