The 22nd edition of the ISMF Ski Mountaineering (SkiMo) World Cup season is here.

From the opener in Courchevel, France, in mid-December to the Finals in Tromsø, Norway, in April, the world’s top SkiMo athletes will compete across nine World Cup stops in eight countries.

The calendar features the World Cup debut of Shahdag, Azerbaijan, in January and the Olympic test event in Bormio, Italy, in February.

France’s Thibaud Anselmet and Emily Harrop are the reigning overall and sprint champions, while Italy finished last season atop the mixed relay rankings. Sprint and mixed relays are the two events in the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 programme. The other SkiMo disciplines, not part of the Olympic programme, are the individual race, the vertical race, and the team event.

From 2 to 9 March, Morgins, Switzerland, will host the 2025 World Championships, where Olympic quotas will be directly allocated.

ISMF Ski Mountaineering World Cup 2024/25: Athletes to watch

Last season, France, Switzerland, and Italy—in that order—were the top-scoring countries in the World Cup nation rankings.

French athletes dominated the overall standings: on the men’s side, Thibaut Anselmet retained the title for the second consecutive year, finishing ahead of Belgium’s Maximilien Drion Du Chapois in second and Switzerland’s Rémi Bonnet in third. Emily Harrop secured her third straight women’s overall World Cup title, followed by teammate Célia Perillat-Pessey in second and Italy’s Alba De Silvestro in third.

Anselmet and Harrop also claimed the globe in the sprint: “This season, the idea is really to step up another level in the Olympic events, the sprint and the relay,” Harrop said in an exclusive interview with Olympics.com. “I plan to save energy to focus on those events.”

At the last World Championships in Boí Taüll, Spain, Harrop and Anselmet teamed up to win gold in the mixed relay, with Italy’s Giulia Murada and Nicolò Ernesto Canclini taking silver, and fellow French athletes Axelle Gachet-Mollaret and Robin Galindo completing the podium.

In the individual sprint events, Spain’s Oriol Cardona Coll claimed gold ahead of Anselmet, who took silver, and Galindo, who earned bronze. Slovakia’s Marianna Jagerčíková won the women’s sprint title, finishing ahead of Switzerland’s Marianne Fatton in second and Harrop in third.
