The quarter-finals of the 2023 BWF Sudirman Cup are underway in Suzhou, People's Republic of China, as nations compete for semi-final spots at the mixed badminton team event.

Malaysia booked their place with a 3-1 win over Denmark. The European nation's top player, men's world number one Viktor Axelsen, retired injured from his men's singles clash with Lee Zii Jia in that match.

China beat Indonesia 3-0 in their tie, with Chen Yu Fei sealing the winning point to move into Saturday's semi-finals.

Republic of Korea were the first team to seal their progress into the final four by moving into an unassailable 3-1 lead over Chinese Taipei in the early session on Friday (19 May). An Se Young's women's singles win over Tai Tzu Ying put them ahead, before Lee Yang and Ye Hong Wei retired in the second game of their men's doubles clash to confirm Korea's place in the final four.

The other early encounter went right down to the wire, with Japan beating Thailand 3-2 thanks to a tense Men's doubles encounter. Hoki Takuro and Kobayashi Yugo came from a game down to beat Kittinupong Kedren and Dechapol Puavaranukroh 19-21, 21-10, 21-18 and book the semi-final spot.
