Biography

Growing up, Eugénie Le Sommer dreamed of becoming a famous female professional footballer in France. She not only achieved that, but also boasts one of the finest resume's in her sport.

The record-breaking goalscorer for the French national team still has plenty in store for one last major tournament: the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Eugénie Le Sommer: From early struggles to professional heights

Born in 1989 into a football family, Le Sommer dived instinctively into the sport as soon as she could walk. She often played in boys teams, and despite her mother's reservations, Le Sommer continued to play football alongside judo until the age of 12. She eventually had to choose between the two and chose football, signing for FC Lorient, a girls' team in a boys' championship, at 15.

Sommer's performances at youth levels earned her a call-up to attended the famous Clairefontaine academy, where she met her idol, Zinedine Zidane.
