Anjelina fled South Sudan with her aunt in 2002 due to the civil war, seeking refuge in Kakuma, Kenya. During her high school years, she took part in numerous running competitions. In 2015, one of her teachers encouraged her to join in a 10km run, which led to her selection for an elite-level training camp. This paved the way for her participation in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 as a part of the Refugee Olympic Team.
Since participating in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, Anjelina has become a mother. After competing at Tokyo 2020, she finally had the chance to meet her parents for the first time again after 18 years.
