SAM
IOC YL BIO

Peniamina is a Judo athlete from Samoa who competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and is currently training for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Art and sports have always been a part of his life in Samoa where he grew up playing rugby and surfing. With his interest in martial arts, he plans to open a Dojo where martial arts and self-defence will be taught as a strategy to help combat lifestyle diseases and an entrenched culture of bullying and violence. Peniamina is involved in numerous creative activities such as music making, bone carving, video editing, and rustic furniture making.

PROJECT

The project will be carried out in Samoa using Judo and Jiu-Jitsu as ways to promote well-being through physical training, self-discipline, and healthy diets, as well as foster social harmony through the inclusion of all, in rural and urban settings. It also aims to decrease violence in Samoa by safeguarding victims, and by promoting a healthier means of channelling negative emotions through physical expression rather than aggression.
