Joseph Owino
Joseph Owino is a Kenyan national Para taekwondo athlete and bronze medallist at the 5th African Para Taekwondo Championships. Alongside his sporting career, he is a student and youth leader who champions the rights and interests of young people with disabilities across education, sport and leadership.
Through his campaign #InclusionAgenda, Joseph advocates for disability inclusion in schools; talent and skills development through sport, music and art; and stronger representation in leadership and governance. An international relations scholar with a passion for socio-economic development, he seeks to translate local experiences into global policy solutions that empower people with disabilities.
Beyond Sport Kenya is designed to advance disability inclusion in higher education by creating opportunities for talented students with disabilities to participate in sport. The initiative organises annual Inter-University Para-Sports Competitions alongside talent identification and development programmes.
By spotlighting athletes in Kenya’s universities and colleges, the project builds pathways for participation, performance and inclusion, while reinforcing the role of sport in advancing equal access to education. Through structured competitions, mentorship and advocacy, Beyond Sport Kenya is elevating Para sport and reshaping the narrative around disability in Kenyan society.
