10 December 2024 - The NOC’s Women and Sport Commission concluded its 2024 series of conferences with a meeting in late November in San Juan de la Maguana. Aimed at students and teachers from the Urania Montás campus of the Salomé Ureña Higher Institute for Teacher Training, the event was attended by around sixty people. Speakers shared their insights and reflections on the importance of gender equality and sport as key tools for social and educational development. Over the past year, the NOC Women and Sport Commission has conducted an ongoing programme of conferences in various provinces across the country on the theme “Empowering Women in Sport”. 22 November 2024 - The NOC’s Women and Sport Commission recently held a two-day seminar on women and men in sport as part of its “2025-2028 Agenda”. The seminar was aimed at national sports federations, athletes, sports unions, associations and clubs. The preparatory meeting was organised with support from the NOC’s Olympic Solidarity programme. More info here. In addition, 11 sports personalities, including nine athletes, were inducted into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame. 04 October 2024 - At the NOC’s Extraordinary and Ordinary General Assemblies, National Federation representatives approved the audited 2023 financial report and the budget and programme of activities for 2025. The programme of activities, presented by NOC President Garibaldy Bautista, includes the Olympic Gala, the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción (Paraguay) and the Bolivarian Games. More info here.
15 July 2024 - The NOC Executive Committee has chosen sprinter Marileidy Paulino and gymnast Audrys Nin Reyes as the flagbearers for the Dominican Republic team at the Opening Ceremony of the Games in Paris. Winner of two silver medals at Tokyo 2020, Paulino is also an Olympic Solidarity Paris 2024 scholarship-holder, and qualified for these Games by winning the 400 metres in a record time at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador. For his part, Nin Reyes secured the only Paris 2024 slot allocated in the artistic gymnastics competition at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, where he won gold in the vault. Full details here. An international course for handball coaches (level D) was held recently at the NOC headquarters, under the auspices of the International Handball Federation. A total of 40 coaches from Colombia, Cuba and the Dominican Republic took part, with a view to obtaining the licence they need to coach their national teams. At the end of the course, the Dominican handball federation presented an award to former NOC President José Joaquín Puello Herrera, in recognition of his contribution to the sports movement. 25 June 2024 - Olympic Day was celebrated at the Olympic Centre in Santo Domingo. A walk was organised to mark the occasion, and numerous athletes, federation presidents, league and club members, and Olympic leaders, including NOC President Garibaldy Bautista, took part. The day’s activities were organised with the support of the NOC’s Olympic Solidarity programme, and included tree planting, with the creation of an Olympic garden; discussions led by the NOC’s Women & Sport and Environment commissions; a recreational sports demonstration; and an art exhibition. More details here. A sports administration course was recently held by the NOC, with the support of Olympic Solidarity and coordinated by the National Olympic Academy. The course was for the staff of clubs that are members of the Dominican Clubs Federation (Fedoclubes). It was held at the “Albergue Olímpico” in Santo Domingo, and brought together more than 45 participants, including coaches, technicians, athletes and leaders, who all received their participation diploma. 03 June 2024 - Mexican Consul in the Dominican Republic, Rubén Fuentes, was hosted at the NOC headquarters by NOC President Garibaldy Bautista and Secretary General Luis Chanlatte. At a meeting attended by other members of the NOC management, various sports-related subjects were addressed, including cooperation between the two countries, coach exchanges, athlete training programmes and the organisation of joint competitions. 27 May 2024 - NOC President Garibaldy Bautista recently received the Cuban Ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Ángel Arzuaga Reyes, with whom he discussed the development of sport and the cooperation between the two countries in this regard.
16 May 2024 - As part of the activities to mark the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the NOC, through its Olympic Academy, and the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic have mounted an exhibition entitled “Sport and Brotherhood, the Olympic Truce”. Opened at the NOC headquarters on 30 April, the exhibition features photos illustrating the values and emotions felt by athletes at past Olympic Games. This initiative is part of the activities being run jointly by the NOC, the French Embassy, the Sports Ministry, the Lycée français and Alliance française. More details here. Also in the framework of these joint activities, the Lycée Français named its sports hall “Reinas del Caribe” (Queens of the Caribbean), to illustrate its commitment to developing school sport and promoting the values of sport. 30 April 2024 - The NOC has informed us of a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association of Pan American Sports Confederations (ACODEPA) in Santo Domingo. ACODEPA had requested the support of the NOC and the Organising Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. The meeting aimed to strengthen the friendship and collaboration between the various Pan American sports confederations and the Olympic Movement in the Dominican Republic and its sports federations. Also of note is that the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, was awarded the Grand Collar of ACODEPA, its highest honour, in recognition of his contribution to the development of sport. 15 April 2024 - The NOC President, Garibaldy Bautista, received international taekwondo leaders Juan Manuel López, President of the Pan American Taekwondo Union, and Jeongkang Seo, Secretary General of World Taekwondo. Together, they discussed taekwondo’s development in the Americas and across the world, and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. The two men were in Santo Domingo for the Olympic regional qualifying tournament. More details here.
25 March 2024 - A number of Olympic athletes recently inaugurated the “Entre Atletas Studio”. This digital recording studio is available to athletes wanting to launch their own projects, such as the “Entre Atletas” podcast produced by Olympic medallists Luisito Pie (taekwondo) and Luguelin Santos (athletics), and Olympian Camil Domínguez (volleyball). 19 March 2024 - Meeting in New York (USA), the first International Congress for Dominican Sport proposed setting up a Sports Management Office, which will be decentralised from the Sports Ministry and based in New York. The Congress was organised under the auspices of the Dominican Consulate in New York, in coordination with the Dominican Sports Union in New York. Among the speakers at the Congress were IOC Member and Centro Caribe Sports President Luis Mejía Oviedo, who spoke about the Dominican Republic at the Central American and Caribbean Games, the Pan American Games and the Olympic Games; NOC President Garibaldy Bautista, who discussed Olympism in the Dominican Republic, the Olympic pyramid and sports federations; and Olympian Felicia Candelario, who addressed women’s participation in sport. 04 March 2024 - An Olympic “bubble” will be set up at the NOC headquarters for the Dominican delegation going to the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The announcement was made by the Minister for Sport, Francisco Camacho, who said that, working in cooperation with the NOC, everything would be done to help the Dominican athletes achieve success in Paris. The NOC President, Garibaldy Bautista, recalled that the promotional campaign “Rumbo a Paris 2024” (“On the Road to Paris 2024”) has been designed to shine a spotlight on the athletes who will be competing in the French capital this summer. Promotional material will be released on the 26th of each month. The campaign is being run by the NOC, together with the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic and the Ministry of Sport. 27 February 2024 - The office of the Chef de Mission for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 was officially opened at the NOC headquarters in early February. Those in attendance at the ceremony included the French Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Eric Fournier; the Dominican Deputy Minister for Sport, Franklin de la Mota; and the NOC Secretary General, Luis Chanlatte. During the event, NOC President Garibaldy Bautista and Chef de Mission Miguel Camacho provided further details about the Dominican delegation for the Games and gave an update on the qualification status of Dominican athletes. 22 January 2024 - InSports leaders, including NOC President Garibaldy Bautista, attended a commemorative mass to mark the 13th anniversary of the death of Roque Napoleón “Polón” Muñoz. Alongside friends and family members, they paid tribute to a man who played an important role in sports administration in the Dominican Republic as NOC President and one of the founders of the National Institute for School Physical Education. He was also an IOC Member from 1983 to 2008. More info here.
15 January 2024 - In the framework of a programme to promote the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the NOC and the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic interviewed world 400m champion and double silver medallist at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Marileidy Paulino. Besides meeting athletes who have already qualified for the Games, this programme also comprises training sessions, seminars and the participation of Olympians. Full details here. In addition, a course for judo coaches (level 1) was held this week at the Olympic Centre’s National Judo House. The course, organised with support from Olympic Solidarity and the International Judo Federation (IJF), in coordination with the Dominican Judo Federation, saw 25 coaches from seven countries take part. IJF Academy Director Envic Galea was also present and underlined the impact of these courses, which are organised throughout the world, and their contribution to the development of judo. 18 december 2023 - Sailing and wushu coaches, technical officials, athletes and federation leaders have taken part in a sports administration course, which ended with diplomas being presented to the participants. The course was organised with the support of Olympic Solidarity and coordinated by the National Olympic Academy. The aim was to share knowledge with federation staff on the various areas of sport, with presentations on a range of topics, such as governance in sports management; harassment, abuse and violence in sport; the Olympic values and fair play; strategic planning; project management; and more. 04 december 2023 - Ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the NOC, the Sports Ministry and the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic will implement a comprehensive activity programme. Brigitte Veyne, an Advisor on Cooperation and Cultural Action at the Embassy, and NOC President Garibaldy Bautista outlined the guidelines for running a series of activities that will benefit the athletes competing at the Paris 2024 Games, and will also help to promote the two countries’ celebration of these Games. The Embassy committed to working with the NOC to celebrate Olympic Day and other activities to promote culture and sport nationally. 20 November 2023 - As part of the audit performed on the NOC for the 2021-2022 period, a committee from the Auditor General’s office recently visited the NOC headquarters. The committee members, who were greeted by NOC Secretary General Luis Chanlatte, discussed various topics related to the sports movement. Details here.
16 October 2023 - The Dominican Olympic Committee joined the celebration of ‘National Club Day’, which highlights the role played by clubs in sports and cultural education in society. Led by President Garibaldy Bautista, the COD noted that clubs have great responsibility as training entities, and applauded the contribution of club leaders to cementing the role of sports clubs as the foundation of the sports movement. 12 September 2023 - The COD has announced that the members of its Ethics and Discipline commissions recently took an oath in front of COD President Garibaldy Bautista. The ceremony was held at the COD headquarters in the presence of executive board members. Full details here.
04 September 2023 - A national technical training course for skateboard coaches was held at the COD headquarters. Organised in cooperation with the Dominican Skating Federation and supported by the Olympic Solidarity programme, this four-day course was designed to develop and improve the technical preparation of coaches. The participants came from the provinces of San Cristóbal, Santiago, Santo Domingo and Distrito Nacional. Full details here.
10 July 2023 - On 5 July, the NOC announced the death of sports leader Luis Elpidio Cumba at the age of 84. Cumba was involved in sport both nationally and internationally for more than 50 years. As well as serving several terms on the NOC’s Executive Committee, he held other positions within the NOC, including a spell as Director of the Dominican Olympic Academy and Chef de Mission for the Dominican team at the Olympic Games Seoul 1988. Internationally, he was Chancellor of the Central America and Caribbean Sports Organisation, now known as Centro Caribe Sports. More details here.
13 June 2023 - A tree-planting event kicked off the Olympic Day activities in the district of Juan López, Municipality of Moca, in Espaillat province, on 10 June. The NOC-organised programme also included talks by the NOC Women & Sport and Environment & Sport commissions and Olympic Academy. The day ended with an Olympic run, featuring many participants. Tokens of appreciation were also awarded to some of the region’s top athletes and other prominent individuals with links to sport in Espaillat. The Olympic Day celebrations took place early this year because of the country’s preparations for the Central American and Caribbean Games, which will be held from 23 June to 8 July in El Salvador. 06 June 2023 - The Dominican Olympic Academy presented actor and teacher Víctor Checo with the “Botón Olímpico” award in recognition of his contribution to the arts, theatre, directing and acting, to which he has devoted a large part of his long career. Under the theme of “Theatre is Health”, the ceremony was held in Santiago, and also featured a workshop led by Checo plus various activities in cultural institutions around the city. Each year, the NOC, through its Academy, honours personalities from the world of culture and the arts for their contribution to society. More details here. The NOC has also announced that a team of 680 people, 477 of them athletes, will go to San Salvador (El Salvador) for the 24th Central America and Caribbean Games from 23 June to 8 July. 24 May 2023 - The Dominican Republic delegation for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games already includes 686 athletes. The information was given by the NOC’s Technical Director, Juan Antonio Febles, at a briefing with national sports federations. The meeting, held at the NOC headquarters, was also attended by NOC President Garibaldy Bautista and Chef de Mission José Miguel Robiou. 15 may 2023 - The NOC has asked various state agencies to perform audits on a number of federations, to provide visibility on how they use the funding they receive from the government. This was announced by NOC President Garibaldy Bautista. More details here. The NOC has also announced that it will be celebrating Olympic Day on 10 June at the Los Robles sports complex in Juan López, in the province of Espaillat.
25 april 2023 - The NOC has called on National Sports Federations to comply with Law 122-05, which covers the regulation and promotion of non-profit associations in the country. This includes the provision that federations have to hire administrative staff with the necessary skills, and undergo regular audits so as to be transparent in how public resources are being used. 03 April 2023 - The NOC executive committee has announced a series of measures to clear the organisation's operational deficit. The announcement was made by NOC President Garibaldy Bautista at the NOC Ordinary General Assembly on 29 March. The Assembly also heard reports from the NOC President and Treasurer, and the auditor's report for the November-December 2022 period. More details here.
16 February 2023 - On 8 February, NOC President Garibaldy Bautista and Sports Minister Francisco Camacho took part in a tribute ceremony to mark the NOC’s 61st anniversary and the Month of the Nation. The ceremony was also attended by numerous federation presidents, club leaders and athletes. The NOC was created on 15 February 1962. More details here.
06 February 2023 - The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises is to work closely with the NOC to help it reach ISO standards in the transparent management of its resources. This announcement was made by the Minister, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó (r. on photo), during a visit to the Ministry by NOC President Garibaldy Bautista (l). The Ministry will thus support the initiatives aimed at obtaining ISO certification for the NOC’s new management. More details here.
30 January 2023 - To raise more awareness about the Olympic Solidarity programmes, the Executive Committee of the Dominican Republic NOC has decided to organise information sessions for national sports federations. One such session was held recently at the NOC headquarters. It was led by Luis Chanlatte, the NOC Secretary General and Executive Director of the NOC’s Olympic Solidarity programme. Presentations were given, among other things, about the programme’s activities and benefits, the Olympic scholarships for athletes and coaches, and courses for sports leaders.
23 January 2023 - With the support of Olympic Solidarity and the International Judo Federation (IJF), a level I judo instructor course got underway this week at the National Judo House in the Olympic Centre in Santo Domingo. Organised by the IJF Academy, in coordination with the Dominican Judo Federation, the course saw the participation of instructors from Uruguay, the USA, Costa Rica, Panama, Haiti, Chile and the Dominican Republic. On 15 January, sports leaders, including Dominican NOC President Garibaldy Bautista, and Olympic athletes attended a commemorative mass to mark the 12th anniversary of the death of Roque Napoleón “Polón” Muñoz. 23 November 2022 - The general assembly of Dominican sports federations approved the financial report from the NOC of the Dominican Republic by a large majority. At a meeting at the NOC headquarters on 14 November, the annual report presented by NOC President Antonio Acosta was also approved, and the delegates present reappointed José Cordero as auditor for the next 12 months. 14 November 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic and the French Embassy in the country will be offering a broad programme of activities in connection with the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Brigitte Veyne, Embassy Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Action, and NOC President Antonio Acosta recently presented the key aspects of the programme, which will include a walk next March involving athletes from both countries, a joint event for Olympic Day and events to promote culture and sport at national level. More details here. In addition, the NOC marked National Sport Day on 7 November, with NOC President making an appeal for unity among the sports movement. A wreath was laid at the bust of Wiche García Saleta, one of the country’s great sporting figures, at the Olympic Centre. 07 November 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic hosted the first workshop for the local sporting press, organised by the national sailing federation (Fedovela). The aim was to inform the participants about the various technical aspects of the sport. Fedovela President Félix Payano talked about the history of sailing in the country and shared various athlete stories and experiences. More details here.
02 November 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Association of Journalists (CDP) will formalise a series of commitments to benefit sport and the association, which groups together communication professionals. The announcement was made during a recent visit to the NOC headquarters by CDP President Aurelio Henríquez and the Head of the Institute for the Safeguarding and Protection of Journalists (IPPP), Olivo de León, who met NOC President Antonio Acosta. 28 october 2022 - A sports administration course was recently organised for the Dominican Weightlifting, Rugby, Taekwondo and Dance Sport Federations. The course took place at the Albergue Olímpico in Santo Domingo, as part of the Olympic Solidarity programme coordinated by the Dominican Republic NOC. The NOC President, Antonio Acosta, was in attendance and reiterated the importance for the NOC of preparing and training leaders from various federations through the sports administration course. 14 october 2022 - The President of the Dominican Republic NOC, Antonio Acosta, recently received a prize from the national baseball federation (Fedobe) in recognition of his great contribution to and support for the national sports movement. The award was presented to him by Fedobe President Juan Núñez Nepomuseno, at the opening of the federation’s first technical congress, which aims among other things to discuss the future of baseball in the country. 04 october 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic has announced that a technical course for wrestling coaches and referees was held from 25 to 30 September for 34 people from across the country. Placed under the auspices of United World Wrestling (UWW), this training was organised by the national wrestling federation at Albergue Olimpico in Santa Domingo. The course was coordinated by the NOC’s Olympic Solidarity programme. More info here.
05 september 2022 - More than 50 young judokas from Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are taking part in an international judo camp being held from 29 August to 6 September at the “Albergue Olímpico” in Santo Domingo. With the support of Panam Sports, the Pan-American Judo Confederation and the Dominican Judo Federation, the aim of the camp is to identify talented young athletes who could take part in the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. 29 july 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic reports that the national handball federation recently organised its first national beach handball course. This is an important step in the development of this discipline in the country, with the purpose of training coaches and other support staff. The theory part of the course was held at the Albergue Olímpico Centre, with the practical part on the beach handball court on Malecón beach. More details here .
20 June 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic recently unveiled a painting of boxer Pedro Julio Nolasco, the country’s first Olympic medallist. Nolasco won bronze in the under-54kg category at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. The ceremony was led by the NOC President and Secretary General, Antonio Acosta and Gilberto García, in the presence of NOC members, national boxing federation officials and athletes, and the boxer’s widow and granddaughter, Candida Encarnación and Marian Alejandra Pietrera Nolasco. During his career, Nolasco also won a silver medal at the 1983 Pan-American Games in Caracas. He was inducted into the Dominican Republic’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. More details here.
14 June 2022 - For one week, a workshop on “Effective communication and teamwork” organised by the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (INFOTEP) brought together 59 athletes at the headquarters of the NOC of the Dominican Republic and the national volleyball federation. The participants recently received their diplomas at a ceremony held at the NOC headquarters in the presence of NOC President Antonio Acosta and Secretary General Gilberto García and INFOTEP training advisor Aracelis González. This workshop was part of a plan that INFOTEP will offer the national sports movement in various fields. The course brought together athletes from various sports: judo, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, fencing and karate. More details here.
7 June 2022 - The Dominican Republic NOC recently hosted a meeting for national federation representatives on preventing doping among the athletes taking part in the upcoming Bolivarian Games in Valledupar (Colombia). On this occasion, Lisste Sánchez, who is in charge of the medical team accompanying the Dominican Republic delegation, re-emphasised the NOC’s zero doping policy. 23 May 2022 - The Women and Sport Commission of the NOC of the Dominican Republic, chaired by Dulce María Piña, recently organised a seminar on gender equality in sport. The participants included IOC Vice-President Nicole Hoevertsz; Panamerican Sports Organisation (Panam Sports) President and IOC Member Neven Ilic; and Panam Sports Women and Sport Commission Chair Alicia Morea. The seminar was organised under the auspices of Olympic Solidarity and coordinated by Panam Sports. More info here. During this seminar, a ceremony was held to present the judo (-57kg category) gold medal from the Lima 2019 Panamerican Games to judoka Ana Rosa. This medal was reallocated to her following the disqualification of Brazil’s Rafaela Silva for doping. More details here.
10 May 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic has expressed its support for the implementation of the Code of Ethics and Conduct that non-profit associations in the country must have. During a meeting at the Ministry for the Economy, Planning and Development, Gilberto García, the NOC Secretary General, underlined the importance of the document, which governs how NGOs should manage the resources they receive from the state. 11 April 2022 - On 5 April, National Journalists’ Day, the NOC of the Dominican Republic (COD) extended its congratulations to all journalists. In a message, NOC President Antonio Acosta underlined that journalists are important allies for the Olympic Movement. More details here.
04 April 2022 - The Women and Sport Commission of the NOC of the Dominican Republic and the Profamilia association have resumed a project that will see them join forces to improve athletes’ access to advice on sexual and reproductive health. The news was announced by Dulce María Piña, the Chair of the Commission, and José Figueroa and Elkidigna Feliz from Profamilia, at a meeting held at the NOC headquarters. Some of the services being offered by Profamilia, as part of the agreement signed three years ago with the NOC, include general medical and gynecology consultations, pre-natal and post-natal care and family planning. 18 March 2022 - The NOC of the Dominican Republic and the Santo Domingo Sports Press Association (ACD) are set to sign a series of agreements aimed at strengthening the sports movement, with communications training to be provided on technical matters related to various sports and disciplines. A talk entitled “2024 Olympic cycle: the road and challenges ahead for Olympism in the Dominican Republic” was given by the NOC’s Technical Director, Juan Febles Dalmasí, with numerous members of the ACD in attendance, in the week when the association marked its 93rd anniversary (see photo). In addition, the NOC’s training programmes will be enhanced as part of its Olympic Solidarity Programme, with a view to strengthening its pool of qualified leaders in the short to medium term. 14 January 2022 - The Executive Committee of the Dominican Republic NOC has appointed journalist Neftalí Ruiz (photo) as the NOC’s Director of Public Relations. Ruiz has 22 years of experience in sports journalism and is currently sports editor for CDN Channel 37 and presenter of the Revista Deportiva on CDN Deportes. 11 September 2020 - The Sports Minister of the Dominican Republic, Francisco Camacho, recently visited the NOC headquarters, where he was received by NOC President and IOC Member Luis Mejía Oviedo, and the members of the Management Board.
