To kick off the event, Dong Jin Koh, President and CEO of the IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, welcomed the Managing Director of IOC Television and Marketing Services, Timo Lumme, and Toshiro Muto, the Director General and CEO of the Tokyo Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOCOG), to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the showcase – which was attended by media guests and other Worldwide TOP Partners, including Coca-Cola, Intel and Toyota.
Lumme said: “In 500 days’ time, the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will come to life. Thanks to the pioneering technology created by Samsung, the innovations of tomorrow are already happening today, right here in Galaxy Harajuku. This showcase is the perfect illustration of the support Samsung provides through its innovative wireless technologies, which enable fans around the world to stay connected and share the excitement of the Games.”
“Galaxy Harajuku” is the largest of the Galaxy showcases around the world, with eight floors, and the exterior of the building is decorated with more than 1,000 Galaxy smartphones.
Leading up to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, visitors to Galaxy Harajuku will be able to experience Samsung’s cutting-edge mobile technology, as well as enjoy a variety of interactive activities that will encourage Japanese consumers and fans to embrace the Olympic spirit through innovative smartphone technology.
Samsung, the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the wireless communication equipment category, has been a proud supporter of the Olympic Movement for more than 20 years. Samsung and the IOC recently extended their Worldwide Olympic Partnership through to 2028, and Japan holds a special significance for the relationship between Samsung and the IOC, as it was in Japan – at the Winter Games in Nagano in 1998 – that Samsung experienced its first Olympic Games as a Worldwide Olympic Partner.
