New recognition for Athens
One year ago, the whole world attended the unforgettable dream Games organised in Athens. Behind this success was a whole team led by an exceptional woman, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, to whom the IOC paid tribute at the Closing Ceremony of the Games by awarding her the Olympic Order in gold. Within this team of unfailing commitment and competence was a discreet man, always by her side, during the good times as well as the difficult ones: Theodoros Angelopoulos, her husband. For the last 10 years, like many of his compatriots, Theodoros Angelopoulos contributed to making sure that Greece’s dream of bringing the Games home was always kept alive. In August 2004, the whole of Greece showed the world what the Greeks were capable of. It was for this immense effort, accomplished with passion and emotion, that the IOC decided to recognise Theodoros Angelopoulos by awarding him the Olympic Order in gold.
