Team USA’s best gymnasts will gather in Tampa, Florida, 18-21 August for the 2022 U.S. Gymnastics Championships with national titles and national team berths on the line.
With four-time Olympic champion Simone Biles, the women's all-around defending champion, not in the field, the competition will see the crowning of a new women’s champion. Biles has won seven of the last eight U.S. titles.
Both Biles and Tokyo 2020 all-around gold medallist Sunisa Lee will not be in the field, as both take a break from elite competition. Neither, however, has closed the door on a return as Paris 2024 nears.
In the men’s competition, 2021 U.S. champ Brody Malone, winner of world bronze on the horizontal bar, enters the competition as a clear favourite to defend his title.
Here’s everything to know about the U.S. championships including stars to watch, a complete schedule and how to catch all the action on TV and online.

Two of the six women who represented Team USA at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, held in 2021, will be on hand in Tampa: Olympic floor champ Jade Carey and team silver medallist Jordan Chiles.
At last month’s U.S. Classic, U.S. women’s team technical lead Chellsie Memmel said she expects Carey to compete in the all-around while Chiles will not.
Carey, who had a strong performance at the NCAA level as a member of the University of Oregon team, will be one of the favourites for the title but she’ll face stiff competition in USA Olympic alternates Kayla DiCello and Leanne Wong, the 2021 world all-around runner-up and Classic winner.
Other women to watch include Classic silver medallist Shilese Jones and Winter Cup champion Konnor McClain, who also claimed gold internationally at the Jesolo Trophy earlier this year. McClain has one of the highest all-around scores in the world this season, having earned a 55.665 during the team final at the DTB Cup.
2021 U.S. junior all-around champion Katelyn Jong and U.S. Olympic trials qualifier Skye Blakely are also in the field.

Defending champion Malone will be the one to beat in the men’s field.
In two years of domestic national competition, spanning the 2021 U.S. champions and Olympic trials, two NCAA championships and the recent U.S. Classic, Malone has only ceded the all-around crown once: at this year’s NCAAs.
There, he was defeated by University of Michigan standout Paul Juda, who after landing a double front stiff legged at the U.S. Classic, is not in the field in Tampa.
Instead, Malone’s biggest competition may come from Olympic teammates Yul Moldauer and Shane Wiskus, though both struggled last month at the Classic.
First-year senior competitor Asher Hong has the talent and difficulty to contend, including an impressive three-and-a-half twisting vault that netted him the event title earlier this year at the Winter Cup.
Other men to keep an eye on include Malone’s Stanford University teammates Colt Walker, Khoi Young, and Riley Loos, who finished second, fourth, and seventh, respectively, at the Classic, along with Donnell Whittenburg, a former world medallist, who finished third two weeks ago in Salt Lake.
