A high-level international conference, the event is intended for individuals and organisations with an interest in the clinical aspects of sports and exercise medicine. It will bring together a diverse faculty representing the foremost international authorities on injury and illness prevention.

As with previous editions, the conference will present evidence-based information on the prevention of injuries, illness and other health problems associated with sports participation, using a multidisciplinary approach. The programme will consist of guest speakers, panel discussions, symposia, workshops, free communications and posters. In addition, several recognised experts in the area of injury and illness prevention have been invited to become members of the scientific committee.

First organised in 2005 by the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre, as the 1st World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention, this event now takes place every three years. It was at the 2nd World Congress in 2008, which brought together 700 participants from 56 countries, that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) accepted the invitation to take over the leadership and organisation of this event. Three years later in 2011, the IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport took place in Monaco. As suggested by the new title, the scope and ambition of the meeting was expanded from sports injury prevention to also include other sports participation-related health problems. That edition of the conference attracted 1,000 delegates from 80 countries, representing an important milestone in injury and illness prevention. Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength with the 2014 edition, also in Monaco, attracting even greater interest.

With preparations well underway for the 5th IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sport in Monaco in March this year, clinicians and scientific groups around the world continue to express their interest in this event that has become an important triennial date in the global sports calendar.

The 5th IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sport will take place from 16-18 March 2017 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. More information about this event, including the speakers and participants can be found here.
