The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today opened the bidding processes for the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in 2022 and the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2020.

The bidding process for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games will feature two phases – the candidature acceptance procedure and the candidature procedure – and conclude with the election of the 2022 host city during the 127th IOC Session, to be held in Kuala Lumpur on 31 July 2015.

The bidding process for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games will feature two phases – the candidature acceptance procedure and the candidature procedure – and conclude with the election of the 2022 [host city](http://www.olympic.org/host-city-election) during the 127th IOC Session, to be held in Kuala Lumpur on 31 July 2015\. Each NOC can nominate one city to enter the bidding process by the deadline of 14 November 2013\.

Phase I involves a thorough review by the IOC of each city’s potential to organise the 2022 Olympic Winter Games\. Cities will be asked to reply to a questionnaire, and their answers will be studied by the IOC to help the [IOC Executive Board](http://www.olympic.org/executive-board) select the cities that will move on to Phase II as Candidate Cities\.

In Phase II, Candidate Cities will be requested to detail their Olympic projects in their Candidature File and prepare for the visit of the IOC Evaluation Commission\. The [Evaluation Commission](http://www.olympic.org/evaluation-commission) will make a detailed technical risk assessment of each candidature and publish a report in time for the Candidate City Briefing to [IOC Members](http://www.olympic.org/ioc-members-list)\.

The bidding process for the 3rd edition of the Winter [Youth Olympic Games](http://www.olympic.org/youth-olympic-games) in 2020 will conclude with the election of the host city in May or June 2015\. Each [NOC](http://www.olympic.org/national-olympic-committees) can nominate one city to enter the bidding process by the deadline of 28 November 2013\.
