IOC meets with Candidate Cities as the 2024 Candidature enters final phase
On the occasion of the SportAccord Convention in Aarhus, Denmark, IOC Vice-Presidents Yu Zaiqing, Juan Antonio Samaranch and Ugur Erdener met today with the Olympic Games 2024 Candidate Cities Los Angeles (USA) and Paris (France).*
The delegations were led by their respective Mayors, Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles and Anne Hidalgo of Paris. In separate courtesy meetings, IOC President Thomas Bach also met individually with Mayors Garcetti and Hidalgo to wish them well for the remainders of their candidatures.
During the meetings with the IOC Vice-Presidents, the discussions focused on the 2024 Candidature Process as it heads into the final phase, six months before the election of the host city in September 2017.
The Los Angeles and Paris delegations were also informed about the Working Group led by the IOC Vice-Presidents that has been tasked by the IOC Executive Board to explore improvements to future candidature beyond 2024. The Candidate Cities provided valuable feedback with regard to the process, which will be integrated into the ongoing deliberations of the Working Group. The delegations were also informed that the Working Group may consider changes to the 2024/2028 selection process, and should this be the case, it would be raised with the Candidate Cities at a later stage.
