IOC holds second round of talks with the Afghan NOC and sports authorities
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) met yesterday with the Afghan National Olympic Committee and the Afghan General Directorate of Physical Education & Sports, in the presence of the Olympic Council of Asia. The meeting was held in Doha and facilitated with the support of the Qatar Olympic Committee.
The Afghan representatives reiterated their commitment to fully respect the principles and rules of the Olympic Charter, in particular the fundamental right for all individuals, including women and young girls, to access and practise sport safely, without discrimination. The IOC will continue to closely monitor the implementation of this commitment.
While closely monitoring this, the IOC will continue to support the Olympic community in the country, as well as the preparations of Afghan athletes for, and their participation in, forthcoming international sports competitions. The Afghan National Olympic Committee committed to fielding a mixed team for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
A first meeting had already taken place on 18 November 2021, and the parties agreed to continue the dialogue.
