IOC appoints Christophe Dubi as Sports Director

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has the pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr Christophe Dubi to the position of Sports Director. Dubi takes over from Kelly Fairweather, who resigned on 15 June.

An economics graduate and holder of a Masters in Sports Administration from Lausanne’s Public Administration Higher Education Institute, Dubi started his career in finance and real estate. He subsequently worked as a political economics teacher. In 1996, he entered the Olympic world to work on his favourite subject: events management. Until today, he was responsible for Games management strategy and development at the IOC, leading the IOC’s knowledge management activities, working closely with Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli.

Working with all the Organising Committees, assisting them with the coordination and the organisation of the Olympic Games, both Winter and Summer, Dubi has developed a strong knowledge of what Games organisation entails in all aspects of the project.

He has also worked closely with the IOC President on the Youth Olympic Games concept which will be presented to the 119th IOC Session in the coming days.

Dubi had the opportunity to experience Olympism and sport at the early age of three, when his father, an ice hockey player, took part in the 1972 Sapporo Games. Dubi himself is a keen ice hockey player, and has played on all the rinks in the region of Lausanne, his native city.

"It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to work at the heart of the organisation, contributing actively to the promotion of sport within the Olympic Movement”, said Dubi. “I will take on this new task with energy and enthusiasm. I will endeavour to continue the impressive work undertaken by Kelly Fairweather in establishing strong relationships with the International Federations. I would also like to thank Gilbert Felli with whom I have been working for 10 years, and whose unfailing passion for sport, knowledge, commitment and ethics have always been a source of motivation for me”, he added.

Dubi takes on his new role at the beginning of August.
