Press Accreditation - LA28

The goal of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is to implement a fair and efficient press accreditation process for the worldwide press.  This process is designed to support high-quality, comprehensive coverage of the Olympic Games across all territories while ensuring a professional working environment for all accredited press representatives.

Press accreditations

  • For the LA28 Olympic Games, the IOC has established a quota of “E” (press) accreditations. These accreditations are allocated to press organisations through the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) within their respective countries. The overall quota has been set at 6,000. To maintain a high standard of service for the world’s press, the IOC applies a strict accreditation quota.

Dedicated press accreditation guidelines have been developed for National Olympic Committees,  International Federations (IFs), non‑Media Rights‑Holding organisations (non-MRH) and the written press and photographers

Press Accreditation Guidelines at the Olympic Games for NOCs

Press Accreditation Guidelines at the Olympic Games for International Federations

Press Accreditation Guidelines at the Olympic Games for non-MRH

Press Accreditation Guidelines at the Olympic Games for Written Press and Photographers

    All of these documents are also available at the following location;

Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games – Official Olympic Documents

Press accreditation for the Olympic Games is granted exclusively to media professionals who meet the requirements outlined in the accreditation category table below. Please note that the following categories are not eligible for press accreditation:

    • Publishers and marketing personnel
    • Athlete management companies
    • Individuals representing athletes
    • Advertising, public relations and promotion agencies
    • Commercial partners associated with NOCs
    • Government ministries or organisations

The allocation of press accreditations within each country is the responsibility of the NOCs in accordance with the instructions provided by the IOC.  It is not the responsibility of the IOC or the LA28 Organising Committee.

NEW! To ensure a fair and transparent press accreditation process for the Olympic Games, the IOC is introducing a Press Registration Portal for the LA28 Olympic Games as the initial step of the press accreditation process.  Written press, photographers and non-media rights-holding television and radio broadcasters should contact their respective NOCs in the country in which their organisation is based for information on the timelines which might vary in their territory and any other information related to the accreditation process.  Applicants will then be required to submit an expression of interest to cover the Games through the Press Registration Portal.  All requests will be managed by their respective NOCs in accordance with their own procedures.

The access link is the following https://pressregistrationportal.la28.org and will be available from: Los Angeles Time (Pacific Time) 09:00 on 31 August 2026 to midnight on 23 October 2026. Strict timelines will apply and no late submissions will be accepted. NOCs should also communicate the new accreditation process to press organisations within their respective territories.  Each NOC will have access exclusively to applications submitted within its own territory and will assume full responsibility for the evaluation of all expressions of interest received via this portal.

The allocation of all press accreditations to press organisations remains the sole responsibility of the NOCs, in line with previous editions of the Olympic Games. While the IOC will have visibility of all submissions, it will neither respond to nor manage individual press accreditation requests submitted via the platform.

The accreditation process for non-Media Rights-Holders (radio/television organisations without broadcasting rights) (non-MRH) will be managed by the IOC in close consultation with the NOCs. Further details on this process can be found here: non-Media Rights-Holders

The press accreditation process for LA28 will officially start in July 2026, when the IOC will formally notify all NOCs of their respective press accreditation quotas.  Please see below the key deadlines:

NON- MEDIA RIGHTS-HOLDERS (NON-MRH)

It should be noted that these accreditations are for non-MRH (television and radio organisations only) interested in covering the Games for news purposes only. The following are not eligible for ENR accreditation and are not accredited by the IOC in the ENR accreditation category:

    • Independent film/documentary makers
    • Production companies
    • Content creators
    • You-Tubers
    • Media Rights-Holders

Priority is given to non-MRH organisations with a national rather than a regional focus with exceptions for regional outlets from the host country. Media Rights-Holders (MRH) cannot receive ENR accreditations nor can non-MRH organisations be accredited under any other category (E / EP) other than ENR accreditation. If a non-MRH organisation decides to become a MRH prior to the Games, their ENR accreditation must be renounced.

Non-MRH are not allowed to take professional video equipment into Olympic venues and cannot film, record or broadcast from within Olympic venues, as outlined in the News Access Rules. Accredited non-MRH are permitted to take professional video equipment into the Main Press Centre (MPC) and use it there and may broadcast all or portions of press conferences held there. Before receiving an ENR accreditation, non-MRH must accept and sign the IOC News Access Rules and the ENR Undertaking for the LA28 Olympic Games otherwise accreditation will not be granted.

If you are a non-MRH interested in covering the LA28 Olympic Games, please read the following information carefully.

For LA28, non-MRH organisations wishing to cover the Olympic Games are required to submit their ENR accreditation applications to their respective NOCs via the Press Registration Portal as outlined above. The NOCs will be responsible for evaluating all submissions and will send their priority long list to the IOC for consideration.

Following receipt of all submissions from the NOCs, the IOC will conduct a comprehensive review and will make the final decision on the allocation of ENR accreditations in accordance with a pre-determined overall quota.

The IOC will subsequently communicate its decision to the relevant NOCs which will then inform the respective non-MRH organisations of the outcome.

Please note that the quota for ENR accreditations is very limited.  A maximum of three individuals per non-MRH organisation may be accredited; however this is not guaranteed.  Not all non-MRH organisations applying through their NOC will be granted accreditation. Adherence to all deadlines is mandatory. Non-MRH need to submit their requests to the NOCs from 31 August to 23 October 2026.  Requests submitted after this period will not be considered. NOCs will be notified of the IOC’s decision during the week commencing 1 February 2027 and will be responsible for informing the respective non-MRH organisations of the outcome of their applications.

The relevant NOC will act as the Responsible Organisation for the Press by Name process, which will begin in the week commencing 18 October 2027. The LA28 Organising Committee will provide the necessary forms to the NOCs, which will complete them on behalf of the accredited non-MRH and press organisations. Completed forms must be returned to the Organising Committee by 18 February 2028. The list of key dates can be found below.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Accreditation for media organisations based in the USA is allocated by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and your organisation should contact them, not the LA28 Organising Committee or the IOC.

For journalists working abroad (for example in a bureau) but with their organisation based in another country, accreditation must be requested by their head office from the NOC of the country in which the organisation is based.

  • If you are granted a media accreditation and adhere to the accreditation timelines, you will receive an Olympic Identity and Accreditation Card (OIAC) before the Games. Please refer to the instructions from the LA28 Organising Committee Accreditation Department regarding visa information.

  • If your press accreditation is confirmed, the LA28 Organising Committee will send you a press accommodation guide detailing the accommodation options that are available for accredited press only. It should be noted that strict deadlines apply for reserving press accommodation.

  • The IOC News Access Rules apply to non-Media Rights-Holders. Accredited ENR organisations can access all competition venues and the Main Press Centre, but under specific conditions, as outlined in the News Access Rules.  They are not allowed to film in any competition venue.

The News Access Rules are designed to protect the exclusivity of broadcasters that have paid for rights, while permitting fair access for non-Media Rights-Holders to broadcast news highlights for news purposes. The News Access Rules clearly outline the rules that apply to coverage by non-Media Rights-Holders, as well as venue access rules and restrictions within the host city.

If your organisation is granted an ENR accreditation, it is obliged to sign an undertaking, on behalf of the organisation and all persons accredited by the organisation, to abide by the News Access Rules.

  • Non-Media Rights-Holders are not allowed to take professional video equipment into Olympic venues, or film, record or broadcast from within Olympic venues, as outlined in the News Access Rules. Accredited non-media rights-holders are permitted to take professional video equipment into the Main Press Centre (MPC) and use it there and may broadcast all or portions of press conferences that take place in the MPC.

  • When media numbers exceed the seating capacity of the venue media facilities, typically at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and other specific events or competition sessions, these “High-Demand Events” will be ticketed for the written and photo press. The allocation and distribution of tickets to the press for High-Demand Events is implemented digitally by IOC Media Operations. The specific events that will be ticketed and the related process will be announced closer to the Games.

  • Accredited ENR organisations qualify for tickets for High-Demand Events, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  Further information on the process will be communicated closer to the Games.

  • Press accreditations are not transferable and can only be issued to one person to cover the Games.
