Biographie

Paula Badosa was born in Manhattan, New York, to Spanish parents who both worked in fashion. Her journey to tennis stardom began at the age of seven when her family relocated to Barcelona.

Seven years after starting out at the Club Tennis d'Aro, Badosa entered the ITF Junior Circuit aged 14 in September 2012. Her talent soon became apparent and she secured her first junior title in February 2014 at the Grade-1 Mediterranee Avenir in Casablanca, Morocco and reached number eight in the junior world rankings.

Badosa gained a wildcard into the 2015 Madrid Open main draw and won her first two matches before falling to 14th seed Karolina Pliskova. She then ended her junior career by winning the girls' singles title at Roland-Garros.

Having experienced depression as she struggled to make an impact in the senior ranks, it was not until 2018 that Badosa started to make progress. In September, she defeated fellow Spaniard Aliona Bolsova to win the ITF 60k Valencia Open before making her first Grand Slam main draw at the 2019 Australian Open. And a run to the semi-finals of July's Palermo Open helped her break into the WTA top 100 for the first time.
