Biographie

Jordan Burrough is a USA icon: one of a handful of freestyle wrestlers to have transcended the sport and taken a spot in the national psyche.

Boasting an enviable record in college wrestling, Burroughs burst on to the international scene by winning his first world title in his year as a senior. Less than 12 months later, he was standing atop an Olympic podium, having powered through the competition to seize the 74kg gold medal at the London 2012 Games. He was aged just 24.

By the time he reached Rio 2016 Burroughs carried a remarkable 130-2 win-loss record on the international circuit. He was a three-time world champion, having also triumphed in 2013 and 2015, and he was so focused on defending his title that both his Instagram and Twitter handles read @AllISeeisGold.

But it was not to be for the USA star. Burroughs lost in the quarter-finals to the man ranked just behind him, Aniuar Geduev of Russia, before crashing out in the first round of the repechage second-chance competition to finish ninth overall.
