Uschi Disl was a biathlete of remarkable longevity, winning medals at five different Olympic Games.
Ursula “Uschi” Disl began cross-country skiing at the age of 10. She soon discovered that the skating technique used in biathlon suited her much better than the traditional style of skiing in cross country. At 16, she switched permanently to biathlon and never looked back.
In 1990, she joined the German national team. Her teammates soon gave her the nickname “Turbo-Disl” in recognition of her stunning performances. During the next 16 years, Disl went on to dominate her sport, winning eight World Championship titles and nine Olympic medals.
Disl made her debut at the 1992 Albertville Winter Games. She won a silver medal as part of the 3x7.5km relay team.
Disl won her two Olympic gold medals in 1998 and 2002 as a member of Germany’s 4x7.5km relay. She also won medals in 1994 and 2006, meaning she had taken home medals from five successive Olympic Games.
