Morbihan
William Mathelin Moreaux will carry the Olympic Torch. Here’s his story:
William is a young French sailor based in Lorient. After studying architecture, he decided to follow his passion for the sea and his competitive spirit by becoming a professional skipper. In 2018, aged just 24, he took part in his first solo ocean race – the Route du Rhum – aboard a 12-metre Class40 boat. The result was encouraging, allowing the seafarer to gain valuable ocean sailing experience. In 2022 he worked with architects VPLP to design a new, cutting-edge, latest-generation Class40, which he had built at the Multiplast yard in Vannes, before sailing in it during his second Route du Rhum. Since 2021, William has been supporting the Perce-Neige Foundation, which helps people with disabilities.
Through various events and initiatives, he has forged a unique relationship with the residents of the Perce-Neige homes, who come to support him before most of his race starts. Some of them even helped to build the boat! An accomplished sailor always striving for performance, William trains all year round in Lorient, an area of ocean racing excellence and innovation where the top sailing teams are based. To bring his project to fruition, the entrepreneur has surrounded himself with competent people who are specialists in their field and who support him on a daily basis. Passionate about the sea, sport and innovation, William is an all-round athlete and business leader with strong human values around trust, teamwork, daring, exchange and pushing your limits.
