Haute-Savoie
Thomas Clarion will carry the Olympic Torch. This is his story:
Thomas, a para-sports Nordic skier from Haute-Savoie, lost his sight at the age of 21 years old. That has not stopped him from winning the most prestigious world and Olympic titles. His roll of honour includes five medals won at the world championships, notably in the 20-km, relay and sprint events. He is an emblematic figure of the French Paralympic Games team, having won four medals.
In Sochi, at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, he competed with his guide Julien Bourla in two disciplines: cross-country skiing, in which he won two medals in three races, and the biathlon. At the PyeongChang Paralympic Games, he added a third medal with bronze in the 20-kilometre cross-country skiing event. On the final day of the competition, he and his guide contributed to the victory of the cross-country skiing relay team, alongside Benjamin Daviet and Anthony Chalençon, helping France to victory ahead of Norway. In his daily life in Haute-Savoie, he works as a physiotherapist at a rehabilitation centre in Bonneville.
