Sébastien Bichon will carry the Olympic torch. This is his story:
Sébastien had to have a leg amputated at age 4, but he later bounced back to claim a medal in cycling in the Sydney Paralympic Games. He now beats the drum for the positive values of sport. In 2020, he set up his own business to divulge his sporting legacy and fundamental values: pushing the limits, resilience, inclusion, solidarity, confidence, team spirit, etc.
His work as a corporate speaker also brings him in contact with thousands of students every year. In recent years, he has tackled formidable sporting challenges to fly the flag for powerful values, such as when he crowned the Mont Blanc in 2019 with a diverse team. The same team now spreads those values thanks to a film that portrays their adventure. He showed his determination, nerves of steel, self-belief and resilience when he became the sole amputee to enter the 2020 Born To Ride.
He and his bicycle covered 1,200 km in under 5 days. In a tale brought to life through film and literature, this achievement never fails to strike a chord with spectators ranging from 6 to 110 years old at film debates. In 2021, Sébastien led a blind person solely by voice through the ascent of a major mountain pass, epitomising the spirit of chasing dreams and pushing the boundaries. Television coverage of this historic first made a profound impact. For his next sporting challenge, Sébastien continues to foster a positive view of disability by assembling a team entirely composed of people with disabilities to compete in the 24 Hours Cycling in Le Mans on 24 August 2024.
