Pierre Berthe will carry the Olympic Torch. This is his story:
Thirty-five years ago, Pierre founded a company specialised in sustainable food packaging. Since then, it has played a crucial role in job creation and promoting more responsible practices in food packaging. His commitment to sustainability and social responsibility reflects the Olympic values of respect for the environment and ethics. Sport has always occupied a place of central importance in his life. From shot putting to tennis, he has developed essential values such as perseverance, discipline and respect for opponents.
In spite of the challenges raised by him suffering from Charcot’s disease, his passion for sport and its values endures. Sport has taught him to display a fighting spirit in the face of adversity, to persevere despite the obstacles and to remain humble in all circumstances. He is involved in an association called “Brasero”, which welcomes people in vulnerable situations, allowing him to contribute positively to society.
For Pierre, the Olympic Games are more than a simple sporting event. They embody the celebration of unity, diversity and human perseverance. By carrying the Olympic Torch, he is undertaking to embody these values and to inspire others to follow them. His own experience with his illness allows him to demonstrate that physical limitations must not stand in the way of everyone's achievements.
