Vienne
Philippe Le Merrer will carry the Olympic torch. This is his story:
Philippe is a dedicated teacher eager to promote sports among his primary school pupils to foster their physical and psychosocial development. In 2019, as the headteacher of Aslonnes school, he earned the "Génération 2024" label, reflecting his commitment to integrating sports into the daily school routine.
He has also struck a partnership with the local canoeing and kayaking. Philippe is also very active within the Clain Valleys Community of Municipalities, where he leads activities for the school sports organisation USEP and plays a key role in organising the annual Olympic Days, which rally primary and secondary schools behind Olympic values.
Philippe has been at the helm of the USEP departmental council in Vienne for 16 years and counting. He beats the drum for the development of civic school sports, in line with the concept of letting children make their games. Additionally, as the vice-president of the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Vienne for a decade, overseeing the Education and Citizenship division, he plays a pivotal role in promoting the educational and unifying values of sport within society. His commitment demonstrates how sport boosts democratic values.
