Nicholas Bachoffer will carry the Olympic torch. This is his story:
Nicolas is a star in sport and for his outstanding commitment to his community. He has overcome his disability to soar to new heights, claiming the 1998 and 1999 para-triathlon world championships and crowning Mount Kilimanjaro in a feat shown on television. Nicolas now dedicates his time and energy to lending others a hand as the president of two sports organisations. His disabled sports organisation strives to make sport accessible to everyone, no matter what their disabilities are. `
He also beats the drum for women's sports as the person in charge of a women's basketball club. His commitment goes far beyond sports: he is also a dynamic force in local life who contributes to community initiatives in various fields, spanning from actions for disabled people to the organisation of festivals. Nicolas organises regular activities to foster inclusion in sport by creating mixed disabled/non-disabled teams. His passion for physical activity burns bright, but not as bright as his love for people. He is widely known for his empathy and dedication to his community. Last but not least, Nicolas puts his humanist values to good use at the Anglet Social Action Municipal Centre, where he works.
