Lucas Delaunay will carry the Olympic torch. This is his story:

It has been four years since Lucas became a sea rescue volunteer. He is all about making waves —the good kind! He is on a mission to raise the profile of an association that trains lifesavers with the goal of saving lives and rushing to aid people in distress. These volunteers, ready to step in even at the risk of their own lives, dedicate their time to helping others.

Lucas has been a part of several rescue operations, in which he has helped out numerous people. His dedication and courage earned him a medal of honour for a heroic deed on the beach in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer (Omaha Beach). Despite his young age, Lucas put his life on the line without a second thought to rescue someone who had gone into cardiac arrest in the sea, somewhere between 400 and 600 metres from the coast. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, that person passed away. Lucas, equipped with flippers, had to swim alone, from an empty beach and in a rough sea to try and save the victim.
