Karine Legallois will carry the Olympic torch. This is her story:
Despite the challenges she faced after her motorcycle accident, Karine refused to be sidelined. A former horse riding instructor, her hemiplegia unfortunately meant that she could no longer teach new students. The lingering effects on her knees and ankles also limit her from engaging in high-intensity sports due to potential lifelong tremors from her brain injury.
However, Karine has discovered new ways to stay active and committed. Karine and her husband, an avid Spartan Race obstacle course runner since 2016, have welcomed two kids, aged 6 and 9, into their lives. Their 6-year-old son has already conquered an 8-kilometre obstacle race and trains at a "Ninja" gym. While Karine cannot run anymore, she cheers on her husband at both obstacle and regular running events.
Furthermore, she regularly volunteers at local sporting events such as the Marathon de la Liberté, Deauville Marathon, Cabourg Half Marathon and Deauville Triathlon. Recognising the importance of having enough volunteers to ensure these sporting events go without a hitch, she is making her mark and contributing to the local sports community in her own way. Despite the challenges, Karine continues to make a difference and stay active in the sports world.
