Jean-Luc Barbelanne will carry the Olympic torch. This is his story:
Jean-Luc, 58, is the epitome of sporting passion. He clocks 8,000 kilometres on his bicycle every year, a passion he shares with two of his children. His engagement goes far beyond sports and spans his family and community.
Back in the 1990s, Jean-Luc played an instrumental role in founding the first triathlon club in Gers, proving his commitment to fostering a healthy lifestyle in his region. Furthermore, Jean-Luc and his wife opened their hearts and home to a young Haitian girl by adopting her 20 years ago. Their daughter is now a joyful young woman, reflecting the profound love and dedication within their family.
Since 2020, Jean-Luc, in his capacity as a lab technician, has played a role in combating COVID-19 within the hospital network, keeping tabs on the epidemic on a daily basis. His commitment to public health and the well-being of his community shines through in his work and his resolve to fight the pandemic. Last but not least, Jean-Luc is excited about taking his youngest son to Paris to experience some of the Olympic Games events next summer, fulfilling a promise he made to him.
