Hugues Valet will carry the Olympic Torch. This is his story:
Hugues has always been enthusiastic about sport since his childhood, whether at school, in clubs, with his family or with friends. The values instilled by sport have helped shape the person he is today. Having cycled competitively at various levels, proudly representing the colours of his region, he also found that passing on his knowledge is an essential part of his life. Thanks to his club, Génération Triathlon de Blois, he obtained a coaching certificate in the sport, enabling him to share his experience and provide training.
A road accident left him paraplegic more than two years ago. However, Hugues rebuilt himself thanks to sport, quickly taking control of his life and looking ahead to new challenges. This year, he took part in a number of handbike competitions, including two rounds of the World Cup, as well as the French Handbike and para-triathlon championships, with the ultimate aim of taking part in the Paralympic Games. Being an Olympic Torchbearer is the first step in fulfilling the project that has been driving him since he left the rehabilitation centre, and he hopes it will take him all the way to the Paralympic Games.
